Abstract

Background: necrolytic acral erythema is consideredas a cutaneous sign of hepatitis C virusinfection. It shows clinical and histopathologicsimilarity to Necrolyticerythemas which are relatedto nutrient deficiencies but it is distinguishedfrom them by its unique acral location, absence of periorficial and mucosal lesions anduniversal association with HCV infection.

Observation: we describe an HCV positiveadult Egyptian male with low serum level ofzinc whose eruption was resolvedwith oral administrationof zinc.

Conclusion: necrolytic acral erythema is consideredas a cutaneous sign of (HCV) infectionand since its initial description in Egypt in 1996by EL Darotouti andAbu El Ela, several caseswere reported .The increased awareness of thisdermatological entity is very important not onlyfor its treatment but also for earlyrecognitionand treatment of asymptomatic patients with(HCV) infection.
